Inventors Room (3-5 Years)

In our preschool room, we focus on the later stages of early childhood education, preparing children for the transition to school. Our preschool program is designed to foster independence, critical thinking, and creativity through a mix of structured activities and child-led exploration. Children engage in hands-on learning projects that encourage problem-solving, collaboration, and the development of early literacy and numeracy skills. We emphasise social skills, emotional regulation, and resilience, helping children build confidence in their abilities. As part of the transition to school, we focus on developing routines, self-help skills, and a love for learning, ensuring each child is ready for the next exciting chapter in their education.

Program and Routine

In the Inventors Room at Oakmont, our routine is designed to help children transition smoothly into school life. We follow a more structured daily program, emphasising larger group activities that promote teamwork, communication, and cooperation—key skills for school readiness. Learning is more focused and purposeful, with a balance of teacher-guided lessons and independent activities, helping children build essential literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills. To further support the transition, we encourage school-like hours for drop-off and pick-up, helping children adjust to the rhythm of a school day (we will still support drop off at any time during our operating hours). This routine fosters independence, responsibility, and confidence, ensuring that each child is prepared for their exciting next step into school.

Reading Eggs

The Reading Eggs program at Oakmont provides a fun, interactive way for preschoolers to develop essential literacy skills in preparation for school. This program is designed to build a strong foundation in reading by helping children learn letter sounds, word recognition, and early vocabulary through engaging activities and games. As part of our school readiness focus, Reading Eggs helps children develop critical early literacy skills that support their confidence and ability to read and write. With its colourful, child-friendly interface and personalised approach, the program motivates children to engage in learning, setting them up for success as they transition to school. This is run through an App available on the Apple store and Google Play which allows you to monitor, revise and continue lessons at home.
